what is en 1.4404 stainless steel bar?
EN 1.4404 is an ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel bar under the European/German standard system, corresponding to the American standard AISI 316L and the Chinese standard 022Cr17Ni12Mo2. It is a low-carbon version of 316 stainless steel containing molybdenum and is currently a commonly used corrosion-resistant stainless steel bar specification in the industrial field.
EN 1.4404 stainless steel round bars have a carbon content strictly controlled at ≤0.03%, fundamentally solving the problem of intergranular corrosion after welding. No additional solution heat treatment is required after welding. Compared with ordinary 316 (1.4401), the low carbon content results in better machinability, cold forming, and stable operation at low temperatures.
316L stainless steel bars contain 2.0~2.5% molybdenum, exhibiting far superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to ordinary 304 stainless steel. It can withstand chloride ion (salt spray, weak acid) environments and is also known as "semi-marine grade" stainless steel.
EN 1.4404 stainless steel bars are typically supplied in solution annealed and peeled/turned condition. Typical applications include: fasteners for chemical equipment, pump shafts, valve fittings, structural components for food/pharmaceutical equipment, marine engineering components, and medical device parts.

Applications of 1.4404 Alloy Bars:
Chemical and Petrochemical Industries: Valve stems, pump shafts, and pipe fittings used in handling corrosive acids and chlorides.
Marine Industry: Propeller shafts, fasteners, and railings exposed to seawater.
Construction: Facade fixtures, handrails, and structural components in coastal or heavily polluted urban areas.
Cryogenic Engineering: Components used in liquefied natural gas storage tanks and cryogenic processing.
1.4404 stainless steel bar price per kg
The price of 1.4404 (316L) stainless steel bar typically ranges from £6.00 to £12.00 per kg (or $8.00 to $16.00 USD per kg). The exact rate varies heavily depending on the quantity purchased, the profile (round, flat, square), and whether it is cut to size or bought in full mill lengths.
All qualified 1.4404 stainless steel bars must be accompanied by a Mill Test Certificate (MTC).
Standard Requirements: Generally conforms to EN 10204 3.1 (issued by the manufacturer's quality department) or 3.2 (issued by a third-party testing organization).
Certificate Content: Must cover all the above-mentioned chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment state (usually solution-annealed), and test results.
Packaging
Surface Protection:
Bright Bars (Grinding/Peeling Bars): Usually individually wrapped in plastic film bags or bubble wrap to prevent scratches caused by friction and collision between bars.
Black Bars (Hot-Rolled): Usually bundled and secured with steel straps.
External Packaging:
Woven Bags/PVC Strapping: Suitable for land transport, protecting against rain and dust.
Wooden Crate Packaging (Export/High-Precision Bars): For precision ground bars or small-diameter bars, they are usually placed in wooden crates or reinforced steel boxes to prevent bending during transportation.
