SS TP316L Condenser Tube

SS TP316L condenser tube is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel tube designed specifically for condensers, heat exchangers, and cooling systems operating in corrosive environments. Manufactured in accordance with ASTM A213 and ASTM A269, this tube is solution annealed, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance and weld integrity even in chloride-rich or marine applications.
Product Description

The pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) of TP316L stainless steel condenser tubes is 28–32, offering 2.5 times better chloride corrosion resistance in seawater environments compared to 304 stainless steel. Using thin-wall construction and internal helical groove technology, the heat transfer coefficient is improved by 20% over plain tubes. After electropolishing, the internal surface roughness reaches Ra ≤ 0.4 μm, reducing scale adhesion by 30% and lowering cleaning frequency.

For power plant condensers, TP316L tubes feature a tensile strength ≥ 515 MPa, capable of withstanding pressures up to 10 MPa, and resist steam vibration fatigue. In chemical distillation columns and seawater desalination units, they offer a service life of 15–20 years. The total lifecycle cost is approximately 30% lower than 304 stainless steel and provides up to 60% material cost savings compared to copper-nickel alloys.

FAQ
What standards apply to TP316L condenser tubes?
Common standards include ASTM A213, ASTM A249, ASTM A269, and ASME SA versions; DIN EN 10216-5 and JIS G3463 may also apply for international specs.
What are the key benefits of 316L over 304 in condensers?
316L offers superior corrosion resistance in saltwater or chemical processing environments due to its higher molybdenum content (2–2.5%).
Is SS TP316L tube resistant to seawater?
It resists general corrosion and pitting in brackish and coastal environments, but for highly aggressive seawater, duplex or super duplex grades may perform better.
